چکیده

The poorly-studied, faint (18 < mpg < 19.5) variable star CC Boötis has been noted in the literature as a candidate for a halo red giant. It proves instead to be a quasi-stellar object of redshift z = 0.172, and is detected as an X-ray source by ROSAT. In addition to its odd heritage, CC Boo exhibits unusually high amplitude optical variability for an optically-selected QSO.

Modeling the QSO luminosity and spatial clustering at low redshifts

We investigate the ability of hierarchical models of QSO formation and evolution to match the observed luminosity, number counts and spatial clustering of quasars at redshift z < 2. These models assume that the QSO emission is triggered by galaxy mergers, that the mass of the central black hole correlates with halo properties and that quasars shine at their Eddington luminosity except, perhaps,...

The evolution of the clustering of QSOs

The evolution of QSO clustering is investigated with a new sample of 388 QSOs with 0.3 < z ≤ 2.2, B ≤ 20.5 and MB < −23. Evidence is found for an increase of the clustering amplitude with increasing redshift. These measurements allow to further distinguish among the various physical scenarios proposed to interpret the QSO phenomenon. A single population model is inconsistent with the observatio...

The Luminosity Function and Clustering Evolution of Quasars

Recent results have questioned the description of the QSO luminosity function in terms of a pure luminosity evolution and call for a luminosity dependent luminosity evolution. Measurements of the QSO clustering amplitude and evolution allow further distinguishing among the various physical scenarios proposed to interpret the QSO phenomenon. The general properties of the QSO population would ari...

The dark halo of the main lens galaxy in QSO 0957 + 561

We present an analysis of infrared/optical/ultraviolet spectra of the two images of the first gravitationally lensed quasar Q0957+561A, B. The Hubble Space Telescope observations of Q0957+561A and Q0957+561B are separated in time by the known time delay in this system, so we can directly deduce the flux ratios. These flux ratios of images lead to important information on the dark halo of the ma...
